Policy Summary of the EasyCover Plan

This summary does not include the full terms and conditions of your EasyCover Plan - these can be found in the 'Terms and Conditions of the EasyCover Plan'.

The name of the insurer providing the EasyCover Plan

This policy is provided by AXA Sun Life plc which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority.

The type of insurance and cover provided by the EasyCover Plan

The EasyCover Plan is a life insurance policy which provides cover for your chosen term (from 10 to 25 years). It provides a cash sum if you die during the term of the Plan, or if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness during the term of the Plan, excluding diagnosis in the final year.

The Plan has no cash-in value at any time.

Eligibility for the Plan

You are eligible for this insurance provided that, at the starting date you:

  • Are aged 18-59
  • Are resident in the UK
  • Choose a term that ends before your 70th birthday
  • Answer ‘no’ to the four questions set out in Section 1 of the Terms and Conditions
  • Do not already hold another EasyCover Plan

Significant Features and Benefits

  • Life cover - if you die during the term of the Plan, we will pay out a cash sum up to a maximum of £150,000.
  • Terminal illness - if you are diagnosed with an advanced or rapidly progressing incurable illness where, in the opinion of an attending consultant and confirmed by our Chief Medical Officer, your life expectancy is less than 12 months, the EasyCover Plan will pay the cash sum at this stage rather than on your death.
  • Motor Accident Benefit - if you die as a result of a motor accident (see the Terms and Conditions, Section 3) or within 90 days from injuries sustained in it we will pay the cash sum plus £50,000.
  • Fare-Paying Passenger Benefit - if you die as a result of a transport accident (see the Terms and Conditions, Section 3) or within 90 days from injuries sustained in it, we will pay the cash sum plus £500,000.

Significant Exclusions and Limitations

  • Each of the 4 ‘eligibility’ questions must be answered carefully and accurately. If you don’t we may not pay out the benefits in the event of a claim. For full details see the Terms and Conditions, Section 1.
  • If you fail to pay a monthly premium when due, your Plan and your cover will end 10 days after the missed premium was due. You will not get anything back.
  • Terminal Illness - this benefit does not apply if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness in the final year
    of the Plan.
  • Motor Accident Benefit - the Plan will not pay out Motor Accident Benefit if the accident was a direct or indirect result of the circumstances described in the Terms and Conditions, Section 4.
  • Fare-Paying Passenger Benefit - Death must occur within 90 days of injuries sustained in a transport accident as described in the Terms and Conditions, Section 4.

The duration of the Plan

Your cover will continue for your chosen term (from 10 to 25 years) provided you keep paying your monthly premiums for the term of your Plan. At the end of your chosen term your premium and cover will end and you will not get anything back.

Cancellation rights

You have the right to cancel your Plan within 30 days of receiving your Policy Documents. Any premiums you have paid during this time will be refunded.

After this period you can cancel your Plan at any time by writing to us. However, the Plan has no cash–in value at any time, so you would not get anything back. For full details see the Terms and Conditions, Section 7.

How to claim

In the event of your death or terminal illness, claims can be registered with our helpline on 08457 322 223. For full details of how to make a claim see the Terms and Conditions, Section 9.

Your demands and needs

The EasyCover Plan meets the demands and needs of those who want to provide a cash sum in the event of their death or on diagnosis of a terminal illness within a specified term. For example, to help provide for the family while children are still at home, or to cushion the impact of loss of earnings.

Death must occur within 90 days of injuries sustained in the accident.
  • Fare-Paying Passenger Benefit - Death must occur within 90 days of injuries sustained in the transport accident.
  • Inflation will, over time, reduce the value of any cash sum paid out.
  • The Plan has no cash-in value at any time.

5. How much will it cost?

A monthly premium will be payable for your chosen term.

The monthly premium depends on:

  • The amount of life cover you choose
  • The length of the term
  • Whether you smoke
  • Your sex
  • Your age

The premiums and benefits will be shown on your Policy Schedule.

6. How do I pay?

Monthly by direct debit.

After the first premium has been paid if any subsequent premiums are not paid on the due date, we will allow ten days of grace during which time you can pay the outstanding premium and the policy will remain in force.

If the outstanding premium is not received within the days of grace, the Plan will be cancelled and you will not get anything back.

7. How do I cancel the Plan?

You can change your mind within 30 days from when you receive the “Your right to change your mind” form. Complete and return the form within 30 days to: The Manager, New Business Customer Services Department, AXA Sun Life plc, PO Box 1810, Bristol BS99 5SN and AXA Sun Life will refund any premiums you have paid.

After this, you may cancel your Plan at any time by notifying AXA Sun Life in writing. If you do cancel, your life cover will stop and you won’t get anything back.

8. What about tax?

The fund in which your premiums are invested is subject to tax on investment income and capital gains and this tax is deducted from the fund by AXA Sun Life. Any money paid as a result of a claim on the Plan will currently not be subject to capital gains tax or income tax.

The amount paid on your death will normally form part of your estate, so may be subject to inheritance tax, unless you write your Plan subject to an appropriate trust.  Any amount paid out in relation to a terminal illness claim will currently not be subject to inheritance tax at the time of payment but may be subject to inheritance tax on your death.

Tax information is based on AXA Sun Life plc’s understanding of current law and HM Revenue & Customs practice. How taxation could affect you will depend upon your individual circumstances. Tax legislation may change in the future.

9. How to make a claim

A claim can be made in writing to AXA Sun Life plc, PO Box 1810, Bristol BS99 5SN, or by telephone on 08457 322 223.

In the event of death, we will need:

  • The Policy Schedule and Endorsements to be returned
  • The name of the person making the claim and evidence of their entitlement to the policy proceeds.
  • The name and date of birth of the policyholder
  • The original death certificate
  • A copy of the policyholder’s Will if there is one

It is important that you keep your policy documents safe and let your next of kin know where to find them.

From the date of death to when the payment is made we will add interest to the cash sum paid out.

The rate of interest used to calculate this amount will typically be around 0.5% per annum lower than the Bank of England base rate.

If you are diagnosed with a terminal illness as defined in Section 3, we would pay out the cash sum to you and the policy would end.
